DISCUSSION ON “BASE PRICE” ON MAINTENANCE COST;
Objections to the inconsistencies in maintenance costs continue in the elevator industry. Rıfat Özgür, Member of the Board of Bursa Elevator Industrialists' Association (BURSAD), emphasized that the base price expectation expressed by the industry at every opportunity would be insufficient in solving the problem. Stating that implementation of the base price on maintenance is against the competition rules, Özgür shared the details of the cost analysis table they prepared for the solution.
BASE PRICE IS NOT THE SOLUTION
Making evaluations about the government-supported base price expectation, Özgür underlined that the base price implementation would not be sufficient to solve the problem. Emphasizing that the base price application to be brought to maintenance prices is against the competition rules, Özgür pointed out that this implementation would vary based on the maintenance costs in small and big cities.
AWARENESS OF COMPANIES MUST BE RAISED
Emphasizing that the solution lies in raising awareness and training companies, Özgür said:
“If there is such a base price, many people will implement it and there will be some improvement as a price increase in maintenance, but this will not be a definitive solution. Because we know that even if there is such an implementation in the sector, unfortunately, there are companies that would issue invoices with high figures and do the maintenance job for lesser amounts and consequently harm themselves. The improvement here is to raise the awareness of the companies.”
WE ARE READY TO SUPPORT IN CALCULATION OF MAINTENANCE COSTS
Özgür continued his words as follows:
“We, as BURSAD, together with our member Cem Bozdağ, prepared an excel file in which the general expenses of maintenance and installations will be calculated. In this file, companies will be able to calculate the average cost of a maintenance when they put in their own expenses. At the same time, when an assembly job is taken, it is also possible to calculate the general expenses other than materials and subcontractor labour costs. We sent the excel file we prepared to the Turkish Elevator Industrialists Federation. The federation sent it to 18 associations that are members of our federation, enabled the sector to access the file. The yellow fields in this excel file are the fields for companies to enter their information. When they put information in those fields, they will be able to see their average maintenance cost.”
PROFITS OF PREVIOUS YEARS ARE BEING PLUNGED
Criticizing the fact that elevator maintenance is carried out over annual contracts, Özgür explained that the price hikes are also below the inflation rates. Özgür said, “Companies have waived their profits at this point, but their maintenance costs have increased with the latest diesel price hikes. Many elevator installation companies will find out that when they subtract their costs, they do 70 percent of their maintenance at a loss. They are now plunging the profits they made in previous years. Companies that can bear this loss will continue to run their businesses without making a loss, while companies that do not have equity capital will go bankrupt" he said.
